- Joe E. RossSchools across Texas are facing historically high teacher attrition rates, needing to hire nearly 50,000 new teachers every year to replace those who leave the classroom. School systems must take a proactive role in tackling this challenge and that starts by making high-quality preparation pathways more accessible and affordable for diverse candidates. Greater upfront investment in rigorous preparation will produce teachers who are more likely to stay in the classroom longer, have a greater impact on student outcomes, and are more diverse.
