Schools across Texas are facing historically high teacher attrition rates, needing to hire nearly 50,000 new teachers every year to replace those who leave the classroom. School systems must take a proactive role in tackling this challenge and that starts by making high-quality preparation pathways more accessible and affordable for diverse candidates. Greater upfront investment in rigorous preparation will produce teachers who are more likely to stay in the classroom longer, have a greater impact on student outcomes, and are more diverse.
